I would recommend starting right off by claying the paint, if it hasn't been done that you know of. I would test to see if you need to use the clay, by washing the car and drying it with the proper terry towl or a good quality chamois (pronounced shamy if you wondered) once clean and dry, take your hand and run along the paint in all areas, it should feel relativley smooth (like glass) if water doesn't bead on surface then it hasn't been waxed either. But I would start with the clay (if your unfamiliar with clay search it here) The clay will help remove all contaminants from environment and old wax, and get you down to the bear paint, then start with some high quality protectents waxes. If your not familiar with some of the things I have described.... then we have a long ways to go!!! Good luck hope this helps.
