I just took my wife and kids on a Royal Caribbean Alaska cruise last Aug. We did a 5 day land tour before the cruise, and then a 7 day ship cruise from Anchorage (Seward) to Vancouver. I would highly recommend doing some sort of inland tour to really see Alaska, but this depends on your time and budget. We got to take a private traincar to Denali Natl. Park (we saw grizzly bears, caribou, etc.) and it was all handled by the cuiseline. It can be a little strenuous since some walking is involved, but it all depends on what you choose to do. As for the ship, it was the best cruise we have ever taken. The ship was the Radiance of the Seas. You stop in several ports and get to see Glacier Bay too. There are a lot of cruises to choose from, and each line is a little different with their routes, etc. Picking a ship can be confusing, but they are all pretty good. Take note that the weather can vary from warm inland, to cold and rainy at sea and along the coastal ports that time of year.
