second, no, if you bought your X5 in N. america then it is not a german car. if it's made for the american market, then it's an american car. and it's even made in the US. I can't bring my european X5 to n. america because it doesn't meet your standards.
how long do you plan on staying? if it's less than a year, you can probably drive with your american plates. if you want to permanently import it, you have to change a few things like lights and the speedo. no much else.
lastly, are you aware of the price of gasoline and road taxes based on displacement are?
