It does have a lot to do with the media. I remember a couple years ago when MD changed the driver's license laws to require * a bit * more time before a teen could get a full license, and had passenger/cell phone requirements. There was a rash of teen accidents, esp. in MoCo and PG counties right before the legislation was started. Although it is certainly alarming, I was like "Teen accidents where kids understeer into trees have been happening for years. People only care now because the media's overblowing it on the news."

I got my license just months before the new rules took effect. No moving violations yet..........
