I have to throw in my 2 cents here. Go with the X5 4.4 sport package. I also drive an e36 and mainly bought our 02 4.4 sport package for my wife. I was completely shocked by how well, and how much like a car, the X5 drove. Judging by your 328, it looks like you care about performace and would really appreciate what the 4.4 has to offer. The 4.4 has powerful acceleration and corners as if it were on rails with the sport package and 19'' wheels. The 4.4 also comes with more standard features than the 3.0 (leather seats, self-leveling rear suspension, etc). It was also one of the safest vehicles ever tested when it was new. Just my opinion.
