You may want to check out Circuit City. They currently are offering 0% financing for 36 months. While you may pay slightly more for the TV there, getting 0% for 36 months will surely make up for it.
As for the type of TV, I would stay clear of Plasma. It is a dying technology. As the price of LCDs come down, you are going to see Plasma be discontinued soon enough. As someone else above said, OLED is the future. Right now it has just been introduced and only in very small sizes. But within the next year we are going to see OLED sets go on sale for very high prices -- the same kind of prices LCDs were about 3-4 years ago.
If I were buying a TV now, I'd get a LCD. And as someone said, LED backlit is better as it is brighter and uses less energy.
But go to a store where they have them on display and just look at the TVs and decide for yourself which you think has a better picture.
