A few years back I got a 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder. In 2000 when it first came out, they were going for $5-10k over MSRP. In 2001 when I got mine, there was a waiting list, but I paid MSRP. By 2003 they couldn't give them away and they had huge discounts.

I recently saw that Mercedes is giving $12k cash back on the SL. Remember the premium they were charging when that model first came out?
