Rap Rules Among the Grammy Award Nominations
By NEIL STRAUSS
Published: December 5, 2003
Rap, which was added as a Grammy category only in the late 1980's, seems to have taken over the ceremony. Four of the five songs nominated for record of the year (an award given to a single) featured rappers. The only exception was ''Clocks'' by Coldplay, which is competing with ''Lose Yourself'' by Eminem, ''Hey Ya!'' by OutKast, ''Crazy in Love'' by Beyoncé with Jay-Z, and ''Where Is the Love'' by the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake.
