Increasing the engine redline is unlikely unless the turbos are also changed, as they are small and limited by maximum turbo speed.
The 400 hp rating is BMW conservatism, while they produce a few and get some real world data. Expect even the factory version to climb significantly in hp a year after introduction. This also fits with the marketing department concerns; BMW officially rated the 3.0 tt 300 hp which kept it well under the M3 rating, and it will help if the 4.4 tt is kept under the M5 ratings until the turbocharged V10 is in production.

I see what you are saying about BMW not wanting these engines to rival their step-up M cars. BMW has unleashed a lion with these twin turbo engines. I have read posts here talking about people getting 350-400+ hp out of thier 335 with boost and exhaust upgrades. With modest upgrades the 335 is going to be closer to M3 performance wise than any top of the line 3 series in the past and I am sure that would be the case if they dropped the 4.4 tt in the 5 or 6 series cars now.
JCL, I see your slogan "no mods" does that mean that you are not considering pumping the boost on your 535?
