Guys, come on. Again, I am a gun owner. Not just a gun owner but a multiple gun owner.
Can you really tell me that waiting 10 days for a gun is so bad. It seriously reminds me of the Homer Simpson skit when Homer is screaming at the gun salesman that he wants his weapon NOW...

As far as extensive background checks, they should be more in-depth. They should be more difficult and more restrictive. The values you are putting on gun ownership, lets say they were to put those values on all sorts of ownership and testing... Lets say there was no restriction on who can drive cars. Let's say there was no road test, no written test.
The road test and written tests for driving should be much stricter. Or what if people didn't need a pilots license to fly a plane?

As a multiple gun owner, I think that everything we can do to limit and restrict the guns and gun owners, to those people who are willing to jump through some small hoops, will further make sure that the guns that are out there, are in the hands of people who know how to handle them and are sound enough.

And some weapons should be restricted to police and military... If you want to go shoot a machine gun, fine, go to your local recruiter and sign up.. You'll get all the free ammo you want.
