I know this being an X5 forum and all so i expect some grief for the following comments I am going to make.

My 2004 4.4i X5 Sport has done only 26k miles, and I have had it since 22k miles. It has been a massive dissappointment and has failed to impress me in any way bar its accelleration and top speed (had 138mph up). I bought it as I had a3.0i with manual transmission and it was an SE. It was a pleasure to own, so I bought the 4.4i car thinking it will be even better as its a sport.

How wrong was I? The extra mass over the front end (V8 weights more than in line 6) and I think there is a massive difference between the 2. 2ndly, my car has servo tronic which gives the steering more resistance @ speed and less @ town speed. Nice idea in theory, but it makes any level of performance driving difficult. My old car didn't have this, and it kept up with much more sporty cars on twisty roads. In the 4.4i car I can't go taunting Porsche Boxsters like I could in lesser powered car.

In short I think it was a massive waste of money, and a mistake to buy it.

My old man got an E class as a rental, and said he thought it was exceptionally good to drive (and despite being a 220cdi) no slower down a twisty road than his Porsche Cayenne S (a car I have driven that IMO comprehensively lifts the on road 4x4 SUV game on a notch on from the X5).

I loved my old X5, thought it was a fantastic car, and can't seem to say the same about this car.

I am aware of the E class amd merc reliability. I found a 2005 diesel model for sale, and any feedback on the car would be much appreciated (and has been)
