I think it needs to start in education reform. For all the talk about tolerance and appreciation of diversity, school success is a big indicator for most of US society as to a person's worth and future well being. However, success in school has a pretty narrow definition. Cultural norms and values play a huge part of this, yet soooo many schools want kids and families to conform to one way of learning and one way of demonstrating what one has learned, and if a student at many points along the system don't meet that expectation, he/she is seen as a failure, in the schools definition of success. Who wrote the derfinition?
