You never have to wait for the lights to tell you to change your oil. IMO it should be changed every 5K miles or annually regardless of mileage if you use synthetic, and more frequently if you use dino oil. The lights are a guide, but imo, since BMW started paying mantinence, the intervals are set way too long.

In your situation, I would change it now instead of waiting.
