I too am in the research mode for larger 17” tires for my 2003 3.0i. I am going to stick with the same size on all 4 wheels so I can rotate the tires front to back and vis versa.

I want to go from the stock 235x65r17 to at least a 255x65r17 or 255x70r17, but I would go bigger if I can without having the tires rub. I’m also thinking that some spacers on the stock wheels might allow me to go even bigger to eliminate inner fender rub at full lock. Would spacers on the wheels allow a bigger tire as well?

I would like to have more sidewall than less as I need to air down for off road conditions and the more sidewall, the better the grip in sandy conditions. Thus the reason I’m considering a 70 series tire….

Also, I’m looking for an all terrain type of tire that is not too aggressive, but more aggressive than an all-season tire.

Any help or guidance you folks might have would be greatly appreciated.
