Some recommendations
Hi,
Firstly, give your battery a decent charge, and check the tightness of the battery terminal connections, and the ground connection.
Leave an automatic charger on the battery overnight. This cannot do any harm, and will do good if your battery was low.
RECERR means you are not getting any GPS signal. zhis is confirmed by the signal strengths of all 8 channels: all are 0.
The GPS antenna is on the top middle of the front windscreen around the area where the rear view mirror is. Make sure you have not got anything metallic covering this area blocking the GPS signal. Make sure you are not testing the GPS inside your garage :-)
The antenna is connected to the GPS receiver via a coax cable.
The GPS receiver is physically inside the GPS unit, which is the navigation CD/DVD drive under the CD changer. Also known as the nav computer.
Your problem may be an electrical failure of the GPS antenna, the GPS receiver (inside the nav computer), or what the professionals amongst us call "scrambled brains" :-) (it takes 5 years training and 10 years experienece to come up with that term)
In my many years of electronics experience I have seen many cases where a good reset will cure an inexplicable problem.
I would suggest you do the following:
1. Delete all address book entries and last destinations - these have been known to cause trouble with some older software versions
2. Update your software to the latest version of 4-1/91 (shown as 0910 on the diagnostics screen, you have 0800 currently), especially as the latest version contains bug fixes especially for the X3 and Z4 - the current production vehicles. Who knows, your problem may be cured by one of these bug fixes!!
A software update is easy: download and burn OS CD disc v29 or v30 (both have Mk4 4-1/91 on them), turn ign on and leave on, insert OS disc into nav computer and follow onscreen instructions.
Do not turn ign off during update. Motor does not need to run. If in doubt of battery condition, connect a charger before you do the update. Update takes about 2 to 3min, battery must not go flat and ign must not be turned off during the update otherwise memory corruption may result!
Good luck
