You d' man! Thanks for digging up that information for me. I had tried to soft reset the iPod a few times without fixing the communication error. I did as your post suggested and so far so good. iTunes recognized my iPod and connected after rolling back my iPod Updater to 08-06-04 from 06-26-05. It is now busily updating, I think, all the songs in my iTunes library. I won't know if it totally works until tomorrow since I'm off to bed. I will also have to wait and see if my Contacts got deleted from the iPod. I don't think that it was my uploading of Outlook contacts/using the iPod as a HD that caused this mess. It must be a Microsoftesque snafu where they released a newer version(s) of iTunes that caused problems communicating with the latest firmware version.

Thanks again. I'll post whether I was successful or not.
