I have researched this subject a lot since getting 3 tickes with an Escort Passport 8500 x50 laser/radar detector only. A jammer is the only way to go if you want protection. Otherwise, the detector is simply a laser ticket notifier in most cases. It seems like the Laser Interceptor tested the best. I am interested in seeing how the new Blinder M25 and M45 versions performed, but they are fairly new and I haven't found any results. Keep in mind if you only have a "detector" that there are some laser guns used around the nation that even the best form V1 and Escort can't pick up. My last ticket was with a laser gun and my Passport didn't even go off.
Also, I would never turn off a jammer if I were using one as someone said earlier. As long as you are in a state that doesn't have laws against it, let it ride. That is the entire purpose of having one. THe cops can't do anything to you. For one, they were unable to get a speed reading and two the jammer is legal. Good for you, bad for them. This obvioulsy applies to going within reason over the speed limit and not driving aggressively. That is another story. I am sure a cop could find just about any reason immaginable to pull someone over, jammed gun or not.
I can suggest to anyone that gets a ticket to request a copy of the officers training records. Police officers are required to be trained using lidar and laser speed measurement devices and if they do not have the proper training, the tickets have been thrown out in the past. There have been some cases of this in Georgia.

C)good quality jammer
Obviously Quicksilver's advice is the best, but I am assuming that isn't going to happen for most people.
