HI guys, this feature that you are calling ambient lighting im assuming is the LED lights under the door handels(they look xenon white and illuminates the doors)? This is standard in the uk and has been since release.
Auto hold is and automatic handbreak for holding the car stationaly in traffic etc, this was standard after week 40 build cars and was part of the efficiency dynamics upgrade.
when i open the door on my 08 E70 the LEDS come on in conjunction with the side lights, when the car door is opened after turning the engine off they come on again until the car is locked then they dim slowly once locked.
i hope this clears things up, i can take some pictures if you wish but im pretty sure it has been covered somewhere on this forum already.
