Just because something is "on the books" does not mean it makes sense. Case in point: the Red Light Camera Monitoring Program on the same wonderful West Side Highway where the OP got his speeding ticket. There have now been several studies done, bith here and in Canada, that red light cameras do NOT reduce the rate of traffic accidents at intersections, and at least one study cites that they increase the rate of rear-end collisions by forcing motorists to come to a screeching halt at yellows. The West Side Highway is notorious for having very short yellows at these camera intersections, which do not give sifficient time to come to a safe stop and avoid the "click" of the camera.

But back to speeding tickets: I feel MUCH more safe with a Porsche Carrera4 passing me on an empty stretch of freeway at 100 mph, than when a ghetto punk observing the speed limit weaves and tailgates in between front and rear bumpers in his nitrous-oxide Civic. We've all seen it, and I'm sure the cops have to know which is the bigger threat. But when municipalities have to generate $$, common sense goes out the window.
