Sometime back i complained that i thought my HID's seemed a bit dimmer but i got the same technical reasoning that higher K means bluer but not brighter. But from your perspective you say a better light pattern. Could you elaborate.

As for it being a "common mod", I'm not sure. I know they are a PITA to replace because you have to remove the entire front clip of the car and pull the headlights out. However, I would recommend the change, they look great and like I said, as far as I'm concerned..better light patterns.
