Another option:

Hatchbag - The material is not real thick thus these tend to shift a bit during transit. Might not be great for an active dog.

I bought one of these. The drawback is that it chips between the window and inside plastic trim. The clearence is so tight on the BMW it never worked for me so I did what I could with it. You can order it to cover the back with the seat up or down. It is flexible but durable and I got it for my dogs. Again though it is not an easy off and on thing. I though of redoing mine with velcro.
