No illumination = no power. Hardware fault, not software.

A crashed Mk3 will still illuminate the Eject key. Are you SURE it doesn't illuminate?
it lights up with ibus activity, so the ign must be turned on to generate ibus activity.

Anyway, try and recover the Mk3 with a proper, error free, Mode2/Form1 CD. Hopefully it will recover.
