Maybe it's me you were referring to as having recommended to leave driver's door and trunk lid open (you have thoroughly documented yourself, as that was some time back).
This is obviously not a must, non car specific. I was trying at that time to minutely describe a foolproof extra-safe procedure, in view of some people stubbornly experiencing a non so satisfactory outcome to it. I was trying to emphasize that extreme care should be taken in not disturbing the car's mind in any way while the operation went on. Thus, leaving the door open would not require you to open the door to click OK at the end, as leaving the trunk lid open would not require you to open it later, to extract the CD (maybe needing to retrieve the key to do so). I think I went as far a saying you should stand ten feet away from your car (thus avoiding the risk to cycle the contact key inadvertently).
The two important things to do: Be patient: do not cycle the key while the car is at it. Never ever use a Mode1 disk on a MK-3 system.
You don not need to be so timid about it. After all, even dealers can do it, and have it right on quite a few occasions.
