I'll look back into the D40, D40x and D60 again before I pull the trigger. Right now you can get a screaming deal on a D40.

That might be true of some of the lower end stuff like the Rebels but my 40D is made in Japan. It could change but the units in stock now are surely Japanese made since mine was purchased about a month ago. I would have to check on the specific production date.
