Before you start removing pins, use your multi-meter to check if you have voltage across the pins identified above.
As for removing pins, there's a trick to it but it's not that difficult to figure it out. See page 21 on this document for some examples -

The numbers for the pins is stamped in the plastic (get out the magnifying glasses
