Exactly! Also, if you are not adding power by a different cam, forced induction, or N20 gains will be minimal. Most catback or even full cat-less systems only deliver 0-15 HP. I usually do exhaust for sound and looks, UNLESS I am going all out, like on my SS ( a low 10 sec 1/4 mile car) then that's a different story.
For the X5 if all you want is better sound and tips weld in a Borla or Corsa muffler and add some tips. Most of the restriction in exhaust systems is in the muffler anyway. Gains from smoother bends, and oval pipes are minimal, unless you are really moving more volume of exhaust due to other supporting mods!
I bet I could swap mufflers, add tips for a few hundred and match the gains of this $2K plus system
And I speak from experience, as I have modified my exhaust on EVERY vehicle I have ever owned. The most I have spent to date was on my '04 Yukon Denali, which had a B&B Triflow catback ($900) and that was overpriced! Luckily I got it for only $200 used

In conjunction with an LS6 cam, Magnacharger running 10-11psi and custom tune it put over 450 HP to all 4 wheels. It needed more exhaust flow because of the blower and cam, the stock muffler was holding it back.
