go to costco or any auto shop and purchase a set of rubber floor mats for the fronts, now use these front floor mats to put it side ways into the back floor it will cover the middle area under the vents, I have done this to my X5 you might need to take a razor blade and cut into areas where it over laps to make a snug fit.... this works and its not expensive...... my middle carpet still looks new
