The 1997 E39 540/6 was just prior to the E39 M5 release and the speed limiter was set at 155 from the factory which is higher than the automatics and non M BMW's. We were just cruising along at about 100 on a desolate stretch and passed a Twin Turbo Supra Mark IV. I guess he did not like being passed by a sedan so he gunned it.

I looked over to my wife and said PLEASE! She said go for it. Not only did I catch him at about 145 mph...But I passed him at a good pace us waiving at him as we sped off. I still remember the look on his face as this 4 Door black BMW left him in the dust. Truth is 0-60 he would have killed me but the BMW was built for the autobahn.

Funny thing about this trip is we left Las Vegas at about 3 in the afternoon and we were making such good time we were getting close to home while it was still light outside. Dusk started to fall and it became a game to get home before dark without killing ourselves or getting a ticket.
