My 05/2005 built E60 comes with DVD Navigation slot, but can read both CD and DVD navigation discs.

At present, I'm using a CD-RW to test that my navigation with added POI's works, if it doesn't display 100%, I edit the files to correct, erase CD-RW and burn again. I also believe it reads DVD-RW as well.
