mellow_sparky is on a distinguished road
and the problem is...

we had the SUV into the dealer today - the sound we were hearing was the TPM sensor rattling around inside the tire.

So how did that happen? Well the dealer found a small scrape/cut in the tire sidewall. They are suggesting that we hit a pothole and the tire took the impact. In taking the impact, the tire hit the monitor and knocked it loose from the valve stem. Sounds surprising to me, but I'm not sure what else to say.

The cost? $240 for a new tire, $70 for a new TPM sensor, $20 for a new valve stem, weights and tire disposal, $60 in labor.

Great. I really wanted to pump $400 into a brand new car
