After China took over Hong Kong in the 90's, the city's office language has changed from Cantonese to Mandarin which is more prevalent language in China, from what I understand.

Some countries with many different dialects as India they elect to use English to communicate to each other.

I see knee jerk reactions to Spanish language, from what I observe.
For the people who are too old and or uneducated to learn English my heart goes out for them. However, stretching out our resources to accommodate them is not the best money spent IMO.
