Drilling for oil is one thing.
Producing it is another.
Shipping it from the wellhead is another thing again.
No, I don't think drilling is so bad, but production, pipelines, and shipping haven't always been carried out responsibly in the past in the Arctic.
It is a side point, but I wouldn't call it an animal-rich environment. That suggests that the polar bears aren't endangered. How about referring to it as the native habitat of an endangered species (I realize that you can get groups on both sides calling them endangered, or not endangered, but let's give it the benefit of the doubt)
