On the topic of eating in the car... I've taken long road trips several times, and when we get hungry, we stop at a road side gas station, top off on gas, and partake in snacks at the tailgate.. then it's back in the car with maybe a drink and that's it... I too don't see a problem with keeping the kids from eating in the car, it's about taking care of your stuff for me and it's the lesson they take from it too.
