Well, cause BMW doesn't want to pay for it so they push it out to 100k mile interval. It's highly debate-able if it's ok to go for 100K with original ATF.
My reference is Mike Miller of Roundel tech master, and he suggests around 30-45K ATF flush. After seeing what I saw on my X5 4.4i (you can search here) I would do it at 15K then every 45K afterwards. There is so much metal shaving in there, I'd want to get rid of it as soon as break in period next time.
