At first, I thought the 5AT in my X3 was geared too short. Sure, it punts off the line (sort of) and with the short ratios, it sounds like it accelerates pretty fast. But top gear revs 130km/h @ 3000rpm, which was a tad annoying.
But I realised that BMW does this for a reason. If your top gear is too tall, there won't be sufficient power to accelerate decently, and could result in gear hunting that frequently happens as a result.
So I'm happy to let that motor hum away at high revs all day now
