In NY State tints on the front windows are illegal. I believe the laws here states that you cannot have tints over 50% for any windows on cars. SUV, Vans, and station wagons are in a different class and can have tints on back windows. Since the lightest shade I can find here is 50% and the manufacturer lightly tints the front windows when car is equipped with AC, any tint I put in puts me over the limit and it will be illegal.
My previos car (05 Audi A6) I had it tinted at 35% all the way around and I was pulled over twice in the 3 years I had it. Some cops threatened to give a ticket for each window. Thats 7 summons all together counting the little window on the back door. Luckilly I have only gotten warnings to remove them and only once I had a cop use the tint meter.
I know tinting the car will be illegal but I do not agree that they should be at this level. I think up to 35% should be legal and if you get pulled over then opening all windows and tunrning on the interior lights should be mandatory for tinted vehicles. This is for the safety of police officers. Before I did this they would approach the car with their hands on the gun due to the unknows of whats could possibly be pointing at them from the other side.
