Pry using a small flat screwdriver at the front portion of the homelink module (in front of the #2 button). The module need to come down and then forward (toward the front of the car). If you can imagine part of the homelink module extend in the area between the homelink panel that you see and the plastic vent piece that you mentioned. This is something that's difficult to describe without actually showing you how it's done.
