We, homo sapiens, were vegans only when we had to be, for
the past 300K years.

We have assorted save the dogs/cats campaigns/charities here in
hillbilly heaven; I have 2 old cats and I like them, but...
the locals put tracking collars on their Plott Hounds and follow
them in for the kill.

I like animals of all kinds, but the hoops people jump through to
"protect/save" any given creature, when there are a few million
humans starving every day, is fairly typical of the celeb cause
crap we see, imo.

PETA is right up there with donating money to your fave gov't, imo.
