In Florida, you don't have to have a permit to own a gun - just to carry it concealed. I am not sure, but I think you can have it laying on your front seat in plain view, and that's OK. Stick it under the seat, and you have to have a permit.
I got mine so that I didn't have to worry about any of the multitude of laws on how you could transport a firearm... In PA, the law says that when in the car, the firearm must be secured in a location 'inaccessible' to the driver, and any ammo must be secured in a separate inaccessible location. Also, firearms must be unloaded and secured when crossing a public road, even if it cuts through your property. With a CC permit, I don't have to be so diligent about going to all the trouble of following every single obscure rule for fear of slipping up and getting into BIG trouble.
