Not a registered herpetologist, but I really doubt you have snakes "in"
your house/woodwork, etc., esp in the summer months. No clue on
your layout as to where you discovered it, but my guess is it crawled
in chasing/smelling a mouse or critter and you came upon it.
They are cold blooded and in your latitude, they really need to sun
soak to get their system warmed up...the only chance could be it
was a pregnant female. I would just keep an eye out. They are
excellent creatures in terms of picking out rodents/critters that
you don't need in/around your house and few are really dangerous
and most, in your latitude, are not very aggresive unless cornered.
I see several species here on the mtn. regularly, but I don't harm
any of them. My 25Cts...
