Sales of SUV's are down big time because of gas prices and peoples conceptions of SUV's in general. The trend has moved to fuel efficiency and sales numbers on high mpg cars have been increasing as fast as the SUV sales have been decreasing. Look at Mini sales for exmple. Some dealers aren't even accepting trade ins for SUV's as they have so many sittting on the lot these days. I know the value on my 02 4.4 has taken a huge hit over the last year or so. I really didn't anticipate that when I bought it as BMW has typically had very good resale value. I guess I bought the wrong car at the wrong time when it comes to resale. Love the X5 though.
Maybe with the introduction of the TT engines in the new model gas mileage will get better.
