There's a "bleed screw" just to the right of the fill cap marked with an "X". It's either phillips or flathead actually. Take the fill cap off and then gently back off the bleed screw. If you hear air seeping in (likely) at the bleed screw the fill level indicator will float down (you should see it). If it does add more fluid until it's back to the full indicator...That should take care of it. Funny too, I just read about the bleed screw and it worked on my X5 only 15 minutes ago. [3.0 ('02) 115,000 miles]. Good luck.
