Today, in my hometown, Diesel is over $1 more than regular unleaded.
Ahhhh, but somebody will say, we should compare to premium.

Prices today at the stations down the road from my house:

Diesel $4.69 per gallon.

Premium unleaded $3.65 per gallon.

Regular unleaded $3.51 per gallon.

Although I am truly interested in a diesel X5, GL or ML for my next vehicle, at these rates, somebody does not want me to own a diesel.
