Still no V17 disk, but the BMW mechanic had a v17 disk, but it was "index u" vs "index x" - got the screen back - now shows 3-1/30 vs previous 3-1/20  - haven't tried a nav disk yet - will let y'all know how that turns out
Added the newer radio & M5 steering wheel (pics coming) - mechanic asked me why the new radio unit did not have a DSP hookup - evidently the car was wired for DSP, but original sticker shows no premium sound or DSP
