MrLabGuy - This discussion brings back memories from the Roadfly lounges - my screen name is different but we are still in the minority.
Politics is always as charged subject -- just like religion. It is always difficult to have a truly informed and enlightened discussion, especially when the opinions of our country are so dramatically shaped by what I consider to be the most liberal leaning media in history.
For me personally, as a conservative, McCain is a tough sell -- which was made much more palatable with Palin, but still a tough sell. Palin is an outsider who seems to stick to her guns. I don't mind a politician that changes their views when the situation changes. For example, take off-shore drilling. I do not support it when oil is at $40 / b.l - the economics just don't work, but at over $100 / b. it does make sense - so a politician that "flips" their position on this issue is a winner in my book because they can adapt and use their intelliegence instead of sticking to a position at all costs to avoid an apperarance of flipping (re: Obama and the surge).
In the end, McCain's views are a better match for me - smaller government, no legislating from the bench, less tax, more personal freedom, etc... and so they get my vote -- but I still don't feel "great" about it...
