Here's what I would suggest:
There are two classes of 12V DVD players: Japanese-brand units actually designed by the Japanese companies who sell them, and Chinese/Korean designed units, often without real Dolby licenses and often buying MPEG decoder chips off of the backs of docks in the middle of the night, selling crap.
Now, the DVD picture often doesn't look bad on a 7" monitor. The temp performance and the vibration performance will all suffer.
But the biggest issue is audio. If you listen to CDs on it you can tell a huge difference. The pice sold by Rosen/Icon/Sony/etc. is audio-wise a POS.
I'd use a Kenwood or the discontinued Alpine if you can find one anywhere. Short of that, the Panasonic is probably OK.
