If you happen to subscribe to LifeLock (identity theft protection service), they have a component that cuts down junk mail. Since I signed up with them last year, my snail junk mail has dropped dramatically.

Also, don't forget companies sell your address to others. You order something from one, and 50 others end up with your address, to mail you catalogs for similar items.
