skiboats is on a distinguished road
A new owner/member says hello. A question. A comment. a little long.

I have been lurking this forum for a month or so and have gotton a lot of good information. Thanks

I recently took delivery of a 2001 X5 4.4. I turned in an 05 Explorer off lease and already have an 06 Expedition. My intentions were to get some sort of sports car when the Explorer was done. Almost 50, and although somewhat selfish, I had the need.

What I thought I wanted was an E39 M 5. My brother is, among others, a BMW dealer so I asked him to keep an eye out for one for about the past 4 months. I told him I would also consider an X5.

The phone call came in to show up at the BMW store, he had a surprise for me. Not knowing what he had I sprinted over there.

The girl took me out and handed me the keys. As soon as I stepped on the gas. I said this will be fine!

A one owner, sold there new, 58,000, mile always serviced there 01 4.4 X5.

It was just the ticket! With 3 kids, living in the northeast, it sure made a heck of a lot more sense and satisied my need for speed. My first BMW and I really like it.

They ran it through the shop, put all new rotors and brakes, completly serviced and detailed it. To me it is "near mint" and I have a 4 year warranty. I don't know what a new one runs like, but to me this one runs and handles awesome.

Just for telling you. I had a DICE Silverline installed to work with an iPhone. Their website does not list it as compatible, but they assured me it was. I had the CD Changer in the back with no nav, and a regular radio, not DSP.

It works great. When a call comes in the music dies down, you answer the call and when you finnish the song picks up were you left off. All the controls work and track and title are displayed. So for anyone considering that solution, it works well.

I have a question about tires. It came with Continental 4x4 Contacts. They are marked M+S 255/50/R19. All 4 are the same and in great shape. The former owner used them year round.

How will they be in the snow? I ski a lot. We get a fair amount of snow. When we all go I still have an Expedition. What does anyone think?

Thanks in advance! A happy new owner.
