Omodos,
On the front face of the auto ac control panel are two vents. Behind the L/H vent is a small fan that sucks air across a sensor. On my 05 diesel, this fan makes a ticking sound and has done so since new. If you remain in the X, take your key out of the ignition, close all of the doors, the ticking should stop after awhile (not sure how long) as the car goes into sleep mode. Then open a door and it will start up again. You should not be able to hear it over the sound of the engine and general road noise. Try a little experiment. With the fan running, hang a facial tissue (Kleenex) in front of the vent and the fan will suck the tissue onto the vent.
Colin.
