oh yeah you can take it to other places.
BMW probably installs only designated tires so that they are legally protected (the manufacturer is liable and not necessarily BMW, if something goes wrong ) whereas Michelin can just say 'oh we never guaranteed compatibility with the X5 with sports pkg off-set rims blah blah blah...'
